BLUE BAG RECYCLING RULES:
As of May 2, 1994, the City of Elyria has adopted a city wide "blue-bag" system for the recycling of certain waste. Blue plastic bags can only be used for recyclable materials or newspapers. In order to participate in Elyria's recycling program, please follow these rules:
Preparation and placement of Commingled and Newspaper Recyclable Materials in Blue Recycling Bags.
BAG #1 Commingled recyclable materials can be placed in one blue recycling bag:
A: Glass beverage bottles and food jars - rinsed with neck rings and lids removed; paper labels do not need to be removed.
B: Aluminum, bi-metal and steel cans - rinsed
C: Plastic milk containers, bottles and containers that have the numbers 1 or 2 stamped on them - rinsed with caps removed.
Items excluded from this pick-up: window glass , light bulbs, drinking glasses, mirrors, or ceramics; containers that are contaminated, i.e., motor oil, antifreeze, pesticide and herbicide containers and those with food.
BAG #2 Newspapers:
Newspapers will be placed in a separate blue recycling bag, not in blue recycling bags with commingled recycling materials. No magazines, phone books, milk cartons, or other paper products.
The City will not collect commingled recyclable materials or newspaper recyclable materials placed in blue recycling bags if mixed with garbage and rubbish. The City will tag these blue recycling bags as being unacceptable for collection.
